Check it out at the link HERE.

Bandcamp Friday - Tiny Microphone

I've been a fan of the band Tiny Fireflies for years. Today is the release of a related project, Tiny Microphone. I snagged it today on Bandcamp Friday, so the artist gets ALL of the proceeds.

If you like the voices of Kay Hanley or Susanna Hoffs, and jangly guitars, this might be a good addition to your 2023 playlist!

Bandcamp Friday - Missed Call

I snagged an album and a redux EP from Phoenix, AZ's Missed Call. It's a great series of shoegaze songs (one of my primary wheelhouses) that should make for a fantastic soundtrack to my vacation full of road trips March 12-20... I'm looking forward to the open road (and open seas) with some music new to me!

I'm pretty sure the band used to be called Shallow,
which is why the album covers have that name instead of Missed Call!

New Music

Ugh, what a year. I miss live music so much! But at least most of us are being responsible, and getting a handle on COVID-19. Hopefully concerts, club shows, and stadium fests will be returning by summer!

In the meantime, I snagged some new music for myself over the last few days:

Fleet Foxes - "Shore"

Nick Jonas - "Spaceman"

Laura Brehm - "Breathe" EP

Bandcamp Friday Part Deux

I had to go back and add another $15 worth of music to my day's hunt!

Bandcamp's #BandcampFriday event (no fees, all money direct to the artists) is a great way to get a ton of great music and support musicians who cannot tour during the Corona Virus pandemic. Social Distancing can be overcome, while helping out worthy creators.

Bandcamp Friday

Today Bandcamp is waiving all of its fees so the musicians receive 100% of all sales of their music. Naturally I've been hyping it all afternoon, and so far I've spent $34 on great new music from several old favorites and a few new finds:

I also grabbed a pair of songs from Tiny Fireflies, including the previously-available only on YouTube "Melody", and a pair from The Bilinda Butchers. Plus I'm considering a few more...

So race on over if you want to snag some great music, and help out musicians who cannot tour to support themselves during this Covid-19 pandemic.

Lost Leaders

From a bookmark list of 'bands to check out', via an old tweet from Vanessa Kafka, I finally listened to the Westchester/Brooklyn-based band Lost Leaders.

They have a great laid-back, slow-to-mid-tempo classic rock feel. I am going to enjoy listening to them this summer...

Bandcamp

I love finding bands on Bandcamp. I have a personal library of the music I have purchased, and have snagged even more for free when it's been offered at that price.

There are so many acts/genres to choose from on the Bandcamp site, and when I discover something new that is amazing or catchy, I buy it. It is such a good feeling to help support musicians who just want to be heard. And even better is finding new stuff from bands I already like.

Her are a few works I highly recommend, and plan to buy soon:

  • Night Lines by Cuushe. Check out their album "Butterfly Cases". I loved it so much when I first heard it, that I bought the cd and the digital.
  • Leave You by Elastic Sleep. There is a definite Lush influence in this Irish band's debut. I want the vinyl too, but I'll be happy with just the digital for now.
  • Demos EP by Cherry Crush. I have had several of this band's offerings in heavy rotation for awhile now.
  • EP by Muscle Beech. A fun bunch of surf songs, perfect for this upcoming summer, whether you live near a beach or not!
  • Reminisce by Evil Needle. Jazzy instrumentals that were sent to my in box by HW&W Records. Check out the label's other stuff too ( I recommend Mike Gao and Stwo, among others).

New Music Mondays - Bing Satellites

One of our favorites, Bing Satellites, has a new ambient album out.

If you are staring up at the night sky, reading a book, or just doing some deep thinking, and you want a memorable soundtrack for these activities, go snag "Twilight Sessions Volume 13" here. It will fill your ears with what you need...

And make sure you check  out their other releases as well! We have been enjoying them for years.

New Music All the Time

As you know, I am a big fan of the music site Eardrums Pop.

If you ever find yourself in need of a new musical experience, I highly recommend that you jump over there and try out a few of the artists featured. You get 3 and 4-song EPs for free, and the musicians get exposure, and (hopefully) some good word of mouth!

Big Bang for Your Buck

One of my favorite shoegaze/dreampop bands, Echodrone, has pointed out this little gem:

Thirty songs of the 'shoegaze slash ambient slash yadda-yadda-yadda' ilk, all for free! What a way to start the year with new music from many bands you might never have discovered separately! Click on the link in quotes above, and then do a happy dance as your music downloads. With thirty songs to choose from, there just has to be something for everyone... ♫♪♫♪

New Music on the Cheap

Here is a short list of cool new songs/EPs that are either free, or cost less than a fancy cup of coffee:
  • Go get Seacoast New Hampshire resident Almanac Mountain's "The Responsible Rejection" - 2 songs for a dollar!
  • Copenhagen's Cape Canaveral has a free 3-song Ep (including a cover of Galaxie 500's "Oblivious") on the always-great EardrumsPop site.
  • Neptune Beach, Florida's Kids on Bikes has a fun 3-song set about (what else?) riding bicycles! Also free on EardrumsPop.
  • West London's Lowpines offer three quietly awesome songs for free ("Heavy Hander" is a current favorite of this blog), including a cover of The Be Good Tanyas "It's Not Happening".
  • And last but not least, check out Saitama, Japan's Kota-Hori. An array of interesting beats and tempos can be found here to blend your brain...

Natalie Royal

Natalie Royal: You need to go listen to her stuff!

If you enjoy great folk music (with a clean 'radio-friendly' sheen), check out Natalie's new album "Savor". If you prefer your songs raw and organic, then snag "Live at Club Roar, Nashville". Plus, she will be posting even more new songs (and a few covers!) on a semi-regular basis. Check out this Tennessee treasure's music, you will not be disappointed.
